MoEW predicts flash floods, rising rivers’ water level

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) has predicted relatively heavy rains, flash floods and rising water level in rivers over the next three days and asked residents to be vigilant and move to safety.

MoEW on Tuesday said in a statement that from Wednesday to Friday, relatively heavy rain with flash floods and rising water levels were expected in some areas of the country.

The ministry said: “There is possibility of heavy rains and flash floods in Kabul, Helmand and Hararod  regions and of floods due to rainfall, snow melting and rising water levels in rivers in Taloqan, Baghlan, Samangan, Balkh, Sar-i-Pul, Maimana, Badghis, Ghor, Herat, Farah, Khashrud, Helmand, Arghandab, Tirinkot, Ghazni, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Panjsher, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

The MoEW asked residents of the mentioned areas to stay away from rivers and to inform residents of downstream areas about flooded rivers in order to prevent human casualties.
