Some shops shut for non-payment of rent in Balkh all-women market

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some shops at the all-women Khadijatul Kubra market in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, have been shut over non-payment of the rent.

Pashtana Afghan, in charge of the market, also confirmed some shops had been closed in the market due to non-payment of rent.

She added: “A number of shops in this market were closed due to non-payment of rent to the owner of the market. Some shops reopened after the payment and the remaining would also be reopened after the rent payment.”

On the other hand, a number shopkeepers in the market said they were unable to pay the rent due to lack of sales.

Zainab, a shopkeeper at this market, asked the market owner to reduce their shops rent.

She added the economic situation of women shopkeepers was weak and they could not pay the rent so that was why some shops were closed.

The Khadija-ul-Kubra women’s market in Mazar-e-Sharif was opened after takeover of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and almost all items needed by women are sold in this market.
