GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Almost all members of a family in Ghazni City, the capital of southern Ghazni province, are suffering from vision impairment, which has brought them multiple economic and social problems.
This family lived in the Arzu locality of Ghazni City and seven out of total nine members were unable to see.
The family leader Saleh Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News out of a total of nine children only two children were able to see and the remaining suffered from vision impairment.
He said he made a lot of efforts inside the country to treat the blindness of his children but his efforts yielded no result.
“I am old, drive a Zaranj in the city, two times had a spinal cord desk operation, my economic problems are many and I don’t have budget to treat my children outside the country.”
He asked the government and welfare orgnaisation to give him financial support for the treatment of his children’s vision impairment.
Saleh Mohammad’s wife said that she experienced a lot of difficulties with her blind children.
“I am not worried about my sons but I am worried about my daughters, their life is difficult now and they will suffer problems in the future as well.”
Wazir Mohammad, one of Saleh’s impaired sons, told Pajhwok Afghan News due to his vision disability he lived a difficult life and it was still ongoing.
“Our problems are too much, in the past the Swedish Committee was functional here were studied here and got some financial support but now the Swedish Committee is closed.”
Sahar Naz, one of the impaired daughters of Saleh Mohammad, said in the past they studied at the Swedish Committee’s learning centre and memorized the holy Quran.
She asked the government to allow the Swedish Committee to resume its operation.
Sayed Fazal Haq Hashami, head of a Disabled Society, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was aware of the economic problems faced by this family.
He said that government should allow the welfare organisations to resume its operation in Afghanistan.
Mawlavi Syed Mohammad Hanif, deputy head of the Martyrs and Disabled Department, said all disabled persons provided support on the basis of principles.
“We support all disabled irrespective of the nature of disability, but this family did not refer to us so far, if they refer to us we will register them,” he said.
He said the department’s survey team was working in the field and they might have been registered by them.
It is worth mentioning that nearly 20,000 disabled are registered with the Disabled Department in Ghazni.
