KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior US diplomat has embarked on a five-day trip to Qatar and Pakistan for talks on the current situation in Afghanistan, says the State Department.
John Bass, America’s acting under-secretary of state for political affairs, would meet senior Qatari officials and other diplomatic missions to discuss support for Afghanistan and shared security interests in the region.
A statement from the State Department said Bass would hold talks with Pakistani government officials in Islamabad on a range of regional and bilateral issues as part of the US-Pakistani partnership.
Under the Trump administration, Bass served as US ambassador to Afghanistan between December 2017 and January 2020.
