Work kicks off on road projects worth nearly 1b afs in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work on three road projects has been launched at a cost of nearly one billion afghanis in capital Kabul.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar told the inaugural ceremony of the projects that the Kabul Municipality had started efforts at beautifying and organizing the city.

He asked the countrymen to cooperate with the government in implementation of development projects.

He also urged officials of the municipality to complete the construction work of the projects in a timely and good manner.

Meanwhile, Amir Yasir, an official of the municipality, said construction work of the three road projects would cost 946 million afghanis.

He said the first project was the second phase of Kotal Khairkhana road, which was 2.5 kilometer long and 60 meters wide.

He added the road would cost 364 million afghans and take nearly two years to complete.

The second project was the Shahid square-Qasaba road. The  1.8 kilometers long and 45 meters wide will be built at a cost of 175 million afghanis in one year, he explained.

The Airport-Gumruk road is 2.7 km long and 60 meters wide, which will be completed at a cost of 407 million afghanis in 20 months.

On the other hand, Kabul city residents were also happy with the launch of the projects.

Abdul Rafi, an inhabitant of Kotal Khairkhaa area, told Pajhwok Afghan New this road once completed would reduce traffic congestion.

Earlier, the Kabul municipality had launched work on a similar project at a cost of 40 million afghan and executed two other development schemes worth 17 million afghanis in different areas of the city.
