KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has inaugurated construction work of the Herat-Ghor highway.
Baradar told the inaugural ceremony that the transport sector played a vital role in economic development of the country and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) gave priority to this sector, his office said in a statement.
He said: “Construction work was launched on highways in various parts of the country after the IEA’s takeover.”
The deputy PM said salt and marble mines existed along the route will also play an important role in the development of trade and regional transit.
He assured the residents of Ghor that the caretaker government was trying to implement more development projects in the province.
According to the statement, the Herat-Ghor highway is one important and mega projects of the country. The highway connects Herat, Ghor, Bamyan, Daikundi and Maidan Wardak provinces with capital Kabu.
