77 killed in last month’s militant attacks in Pakistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): At least 70 people lost their lives in 77 militant attacks in Pakistan during April, says an Islamabad-based think-tank.

In a monthly security report, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) the fatalities included 35 civilians, 31 security personnel and four militants.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, particularly its southern districts, bore the brunt of the rebel assaults, the report said, noting an uptick in violence in April.

Thirty-two civilians and 35 security personnel were wounded in last month’s attacks,73 of which occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the statistics.

In March, 56 militant attacks had led to 77 fatalities and 67 injuries. April’s figures indicate a 38 per cent spike in the militant attacks.

Last month, the report said, the security forces killed 55 suspected militants and arrested 12 others, marking a 55 per cent spike in rebel deaths.

Fifty-six of the attacks, 73 per cent, happened in KP, including its tribal districts. At least 43 people, 26 members of security forces and 17 civilians, were killed and 32 others injured in the province.

In Balochistan, 21 people -- 17 civilians and four security personnel -- were killed and 31 others injured in 16 attacks.
