Yaqub, Chinese envoy discuss border affairs, Wakhan project

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Defense Minister Maulvi Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid and Chinese ambassador in Kabul have discussed problems concerning border affairs and the Wakhan corridor project.

The Ministry of Defense in a press release said Yaqub Mujahid met with Chinese ambassador Zhao Xing in Kabul.

Mujahid noted increased diplomatic, commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries as a positive step and said Afghanistan and China enjoyed clear commonalities in strengthening of relations and Kabul supported China’s investment and economic projects in Afghanistan.

Yaqub Mujahid once again assured the Chinese ambassador about security.

The Chinese envoy said the overall security in Afghanistan offered an important opportunity for executing economic and commercial projects and that China would continue its historical cooperation with Afghanistan in economic matters without interfering in the country’s politics.

The press release, without giving details, said the two sides exchanged views on border related problems and the Wakhan project.
