KABUL (Pajhwok): About 1.3 million illegal Afghan refugees were deported to their country from Iran during the past one year, Iran’s Interior Minister said on Monday.
Ahmad Wahidi in a media interview said: “For preventing illegal refugees into Iran, the rules should be amended in the parliament”.
He said the deported refugees used to re-enter Iran from border and rules should be established to deal with them.
Iran will be hosting 3.4 million foreign refugees including Afghan migrants in 2024, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Dozens of Afghan refugees make it back to Iran after being deported every day.
Earlier, a number of deported Afghans claimed they were evicted from Iran despite having legal documents.
