KABUL (Pajhwok): The Governor House of northern Balkh province has sent food and non-food items for the flood affected people of northern Baghlan province while tend erected in eastern Nangarhar province to collect much-needed assistance for the people affected by the natural disaster.

A statement from the Balkh Governor House said that on Sunday night a nine-truck caravan loaded with food and non-food items was dispatched to Baghlan province on the special directives of Governor Mohammad Yousuf Wafa.

The assistance would be distributed among the people who had been affected by floods, the statement added.

Mawlavi Bashir Ahmad Bashrani, head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said 400 bags of flour, 400 bags of rice, cooked meat, 134 cartons of cooking oil and non-food items such as blankets, kitchen appliances, clothes, shoes and some other items of urgent need were included in the delivered assistance.

Deputy Governor Mawlavi Noor-ul-Huda has formed a committee to collect assistance for the flood victims.

Balkh governor, deputy governor, police chief and heads of some other government institutions give their one month salary to the flood victims.

Separately, a tent was erected in Nangarhar province to collect assistance for the flood affected people of Badakhshan, Baghlan and Ghor province.

Qari Mohammad Asif Zaheer, deputy head of youth affairs, said the tent was a symbol where people could bring their assistance to this point and then it would be dispatched to needy people.

He called on all flood affected people to contribute according to their streghts to support their fellow citizens hit by flash floods.

Nabiullah, one of the contributors, said the culture of erecting a tent to collect assistance was a positive move and it could promote brotherhood and develop unity among people.

He asked people in other provinces to take similar steps and support the floods affected people of Baghlan.

At least 315 people have been killed and 1,630 others injured as a result of flash floods in northern Baghlan province recently.
