Week-long book exhibition kicks off in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A week-long book exhibition commenced in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, on Tuesday.

Atta Mohammad Sahawi, deputy director of information and culture, said the exhibition was aimed at observing “the Book Reading Week’.

He said the purpose of this exhibition was to promote the culture of reading among people.

He added that 15 publishing societies had displayed 30,000 books, totaling 200,000 volumes.

Meanwhile, officials of publishing centres in Balkh welcomed the exhibition and said such events could help promote book reading culture.

Abdul Jabbar Yadgar, who owns a publishing society in Balkh, said reading books was useful for the intellectual development of young people.
