Afghans face food insecurity due low quality imports: Omari

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Energy and Water Maulvi Attullah Omari says the Afghans consume insecure food because low quality food items are being imported to the country.

He made the remarks while addressing a gathering during his visit to southeastern Paktia province.

The minister said people consumed insecure food due to unemployment and imports of low-quality goods into the country.

He added: “There is no food security in the country, flour, wheat, cooking oil and all necessary commodities are imported from abroad and people purchase them because they have no other choice.”

He blamed all these problems on the last two decades of conflict in the country.

Omari was accompanied by the ministers of rural rehabilitation and development, justice and other high-ranking officials.
