Delegation, emergency aid from centre arrive in Ghor

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): A delegation from the central government along with emergency aid and relief items has arrived in western Ghor province to assess the post-flood situation closely, an official said on Sunday.

Some officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) along with food, medicines and shelter facilities have reached Ferozkoh, the provincial capital, to visit families affected by the flood.

Mawlavi Mohammad Hamas, the Provincial Information and Culture Department Director told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The dispatched delegation reached Ghor province and held talks with local officials about the preliminary assessment of damages caused by the floods and ways to reach the people who suffered from the natural disaster.”

Acting governor Mullah Ahmad Shah Din Dost briefed the delegation of the IEA about the damages caused by the floods, he said the situation in that province was alarming and people were in basic need of food, shelter and clean water.

The delegation is supposed to visit the affected areas in that province and provide the affected people with aid.

According to the reports at least 50 people, including women and children, had been killed in Ghor, 2,500 houses, thousands of hectares of crops fields and orchards were washed out and hundreds of culverts and bridges were destroyed in different parts of that province. The floods had also killed thousands of cattle and damaged dozens of vehicles.
