HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Salma Dam has reached its highest water level, forcing authorities to release 400 million cubic meters of water from the reservoir following recent rains, an official in western Herat province said on Sunday.
Head of Harirud River Basin Autority Maulvi Sardar Wali Muzamel told reporters that 400 cubic meters of water had to be released from the Salma Dam due to recent rainfall last night.
“This is not serious, officials released water to prevent the dam’s destruction and more than 480 million cubic meters of water is currently stored”.
Recent rainfall brought to an end the drought and increased the underground water level by up to five meters.
