KABUL (Pajhwok): Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund on Monday expressed his grief and sorrow over the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Foreign Minister in a helicopter crash.
Raisi, Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and several other people died in the incident.
Raisi was returning from the inaugural ceremony for a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed upon landing in Varzaqan region on Sunday.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the IEA, wrote on his X page that PM Mullah Hassan Akhund had extended his deep condolences to Iran on Raisi’s death.
“With great sadness, we came to know that the President of Iran, Sayed Ebrahim Raisi, foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdulahian, and the delegation accompanying them lost their lives in the helicopter crash.”
“The IEA and all Afghans are deeply saddened by this painful incident”, he added.
“We extend our condolences to the families of all the victims and the Iranian nation and the government. We stand with the Iranian people in this difficult situation. We pray for the departed souls and wish patience for their families.”
