Raisi to be laid to rest in Mashhad on Thursday

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, will be laid to rest in the northeastern city Mashhad on Thursday.

The funeral/burial announcement was made by Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri on Monday.

Raisi, his foreign minister and other officials were killed on Sunday when the helicopter carrying them crashed in the East Azerbaijan province.

According to Iranian media outlets, funeral ceremonies for Raisi will be held in Tabriz, Qom, Tehran, Birjand and Mashhad from Tuesday to Thursday.

Also on Monday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei declared five days of national mourning over the tragic incident.

IRNA reported Wednesday had been declared an official holiday across the country. All exams have been canceled until the end of the week.
