KABUL (Pajhwok): Contracts for the reconstruction of the Salang highway have been extended with three construction companies and the remaining work on the key road will begin soon, says the Ministry of Public Works.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, spokesman for MoPW, said in a statement the reconstruction of the highway had been launched last year in three sections.
He recalled work on the major project had been stopped in the winter due to the cold weather and continuous rain and floods.
The ministry was prepared to complete the national project this year to bring transportation facilities to the citizens. The remaining work will resume when the weather becomes favourable.
The Salang highway connects 13 northern provinces of the country with Kabul. Thousands of vehicles ply the highway on a daily basis.
