Afghanistan-Oman warm-up game rained off

KABUL (Pajhwok): The first warm-up match between Afghanistan and Oman has been washed out by persistent rain at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) wrote on its Facebook page the match ahead of the T20 World Cup was abandoned due to persistent rain.

Before rain, Afghan skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opposition captain Aqib Ilyas hit half century to help his side set a 154 runs target for Afghanistan.

Azmat Omarzi and Naveen-ul-Haq grabbed one wicket each for Afghanistan.

After Oman’s innings, the rain intensified, rendering the outfield unplayable. With Afghanistan unable to begin their chase, match officials were left with no choice but to abandon the contest.

The Rashid Khan-led squad will take on Scotland in their second warm-up game on Friday (tomorrow).

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on the first of June. Afghanistan are placed in Group C along with New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and co-hosts the West Indies.

Afghanistan will begin their World Cup campaign against Uganda on June 5 at the Providence Stadium.
