Afghanistan thrash Scotland in warm-up game

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan have thrashed Scotland in their second warm-up match ahead of T20 World Cup by 55 runs at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad.

Afghan skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. All-rounder Gulbadin Naib hit half century to help Afghanistan set a178 runs target for the opposition.

Naib slammed 69 off 30 balls, while Azmatullah Omarzai struck 48 off 36 deliveries.

In reply, Scotland managed to score 123 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Karim Jannat picked up two wickets each. Naveen-ul-Haq, Rashid Khan, Nangyal Kharoti, Azmatullah Omarzai and Naib grabbed one wicket apiece.

The first warm-up match of the national squad against Oman had to be abandoned due to persistent rain.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin Today (Saturday). Afghanistan are placed in Group C along with New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and co-hosts the West Indies.

Afghanistan will begin their World Cup campaign against Uganda on June 4 at the Providence Stadium.
