KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi says the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) will soon announce its position on the third UN-convened meeting on Afghanistan in Doha.
Muttaqi met European Union (EU) Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas Nicholson here on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement on Sunday.
Nicholson emphasised on the importance of IEA’s participation in the two-day Doha meeting, scheduled to begin on June 30.
The EU diplomat shared his observations about the upcoming meeting with Muttaqi.
For his part, the foreign minister said he had held a useful discussion with UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary DeCarlo, in Kabul.
He said the caretaker government was assessing the meeting and would announce its passion on it. IEA’s policy was based on balanced and positive interaction with all countries and wanted meaningful participation in the Doha gathering, he added.
After a more than four decades of war, Afghanistan had achieved stability and had made significant achievements in various areas, the minister commented.
