JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Three water supply networks have been completed and put into service in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Maulvi Qismatullah Mubariz told Pajhwok Afghan News two water supply schemes were constructed by spending 9.3 million afghanis by UNICEF at Torkham Omari camp.
He said the residents of Torkham Omari camp seriously needed drinking water and this problem has been solved now.
These supply networks have reservoirs with a capacity of 100,000 liters, 86 cisterns and five fire hydrants, he explained.
According to him, charity organizations have built two deep wells to provide water to the camp residents using solar power.
Separately, another clean water supply network costing 3.2 million afghanis was completed in 8th district of Jalalabad city.
The reservoir and the solar power system in Woch Tangi Gozar area consumed 3.2 million afghanis, mayor’s spokesman Bakhti Jan Murad told Pajhwok. The construction was funded by UN-HABITAT.
“About 600 families found access to clean water with the implementation of this project”
Happy with the completion of the project, local residents asked the government to implement more such projects.
