FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces have destroyed poppy crops on 47 acres of land and set alight 1,593 kilograms of narcotics in western Farah province, police said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the police headquarters said the banned plant was eradicated in Purchaman and Tajbin districts during the past one week.
It said security forces torched 1,593km of narcotics in Bakwa district in last 24 hours.
Hamidullah, a farmer in Purchaman district, said many farmer met their y economic needs by planting poppy.
He asked the government to assist farmers by providing them with alternative source of income.
Poppy crop was destroyed on more than 50 acres of land and 2,400km of narcotics were torched in the province a week ago.
So far, the illicit crop has been destroyed on hundreds of acres of land in the country.
