HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): For the first time, a private slaughterhouse built on modern standards at a cost of $5 million has been inaugurated in western Herat province, an official said on Thursday.
Governor Mullah Noor Ahmad Islam Jar said at the opening ceremony that the newly inaugurated slaughterhouse would work in a standard manner and provide healthy meat to the people.
He underlined that people reserved the right to consume healthy meat and all the batchers must strictly follow the standards.
Meanwhile, Maulvi Sadr-i-Azam Usmani, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, termed supporting the private sector as one of the key steps of the ministry.
Usmani called the role of the private sector in the country’s economic growth vital.
Standard slaughterhouses are key to curbing diseases and environmental pollution. He vowed the ministry was striving to make sure all the slaughterhouses met standards.
Syed Ahmad Qasab, head of the newly-opened slaughterhouse, which cost $5 million, said the facility had the capacity to slaughter 2,000 animals in 24 hours.
