KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States of America, the T20 World Cup co-hosts, beat the experienced Pakistani in a Super Over in Dallas and registered their second and historic win of the tournament.
Invited to bat first, Pakistan scored 159 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. The USA produced a fine show and ended at 159 for three.
Skipper Monank Patel struck a fluent 50 off 38 balls Andries Gous contributed 35 in 26 balls. Aaron Jones remained not out on 36 in 26 balls.
Pakistan recovered from a poor start to score 159-7 but the US plundered 14 runs from their final over to finish on 159-3 and forced the game into a Super Over on Thursday, according to USA Today.
Mohammad Amir, Pakistan's most experienced bowler, bowled three wides in his Super Over, the US batters stealing another run every time, and Mohammad Rizwan conceded another extra run on an overthrow off the last of these wides.
Thanks to the extras and other acts of fielding indiscipline from Pakistan, USA made 18 off their Super Over.
The tournament co-hosts made 18-1, helped by two wides from Pakistan, before restricting their opponents to 13-1 to seal a famous victory.
"It's a big achievement beating Pakistan and playing for the first time," US captain and player of the match Monank Patel said.
"The way we played today I'm really proud of the boys and it was a complete team effort from ball one to the last ball."
Pakistan captain Babar Azam bemoaned his side's batting performance.
"We didn't capitalise with the bat and they took a lot of momentum. We lost back-to-back wickets in the middle overs. As a batting unit you need to step up, you need to create partnerships and we didn't do that," Babar said.
