KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States continues to impede Afghanistan’s development by freezing its foreign reserves, Iran’s top diplomat says.
Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani hit out at the US in a message to the second meeting of the Regional Contact Group on Afghanistan in Tehran.
Representatives from China, Russia and Pakistan attended Saturday’s consultations, which were skipped by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
IRNA quoted Kani as saying Afghanistan was facing challenges three years after the withdrawal of the US military three years ago.
The acting minister tied most of Afghanistan’s problems and challenges to its invasion by the US and allies and their negligence of the country’s economic growth.
Kani accused the US of hampering Afghanistan’s progress and damaging its economic infrastructures through freezing the assets of the Afghan people.
He went on to ask the Americans and their partners to play their part in rebuilding the Afghan economy and avoid political interference in the its affairs.
Regional meetings represented the best mechanism that could help Afghanistan shape its future and resolve its problems, he remarked.
The diplomat urged the United Nations to do more to improve humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan and help promote regional stability.
