HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): About 1,300 drug addicts were reunited with their families on Tuesday after undergoing 10 to 16 months treatment at a rehabilitation centre in western Herat province.
Maulvi Hayatullah Rohani, provincial counter-narcotics director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rehabilitated individuals were reunited with their families ahead of Eid-ul-Adha..
He said the addicts enjoyed all necessary facilities at the rehabilitation centre and the campaign to round up drug addicts in Herat city continued..
They were also taught tailoring skills at the rehabilitation centre so that they could eke out a living after reuniting with their families, the official added.
On the other hand, the rehabilitated individuals were pleased with services at the centre.
Samiullah, 29, a resident of Farsi district, who received treatment at the rehabilitation centre for last 11 months, said he was happy to reunite with his family.
He urged the youth to avoid friendship with drug addicts and asked the caretaker government to provide the youth with employment opportunities.
About 5,000 drug addicts are currently under treatment in the province.
Drug addicts’ rehabilitation centres have been established in many provinces, including capital Kabul and many addicts have received treatment and others are under treatment in these centres.
