The 15 member UN body adopted a resolution proposed by the United States for a permanent ceasefire and release of hostages in Gaza, CNN reported.
The motion was approved with 14 votes in favour and one abstention by Russia.
Hamas said in a statement soon after the vote that it was ready to engage with mediators in indirect talks to implement the measures approved by UNSC.
The resolution includes a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, a prisoner exchange, reconstruction, return of the displaced to their areas, rejection of any demographic change or reduction in the area of Gaza and the delivery of the necessary aid to people in the strip.
Detailed negotiations to implement its provisions are yet to yield agreement on the part of both Israel and Hamas.
Meanwhile, Israel's representative to the United Nations on Monday said her country would continue its operation in Gaza and won’t engage in “meaningless and endless negotiations” that she said would be exploited by Hamas.
According to news reports, since October 7, over 36,000 Palestinian have been killed and more than 81,000 injured in Israeli attacks.
