ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Expired and low quality food and non-food items weighing 55 tonnes were set ablaze in northwestern Nimroz province on Wednesday.
Information and Culture Director Mufti Habibullah Elham told Pajhwok the items torched included cream, cheese, dry and fresh milk, all kinds of canned goods, macaroni, tomato paste and non-edible plastic items and children’s clothes, etc.
These items had been imported from Pakistan and Iran and collected during the past four months and set alight today, he added.
Also present on the occasion was Governor Sheikh Mohammad Qasim Khalid, who asked all national traders and people not to import and buy expired and smuggled goods and warned violators of stern legal action.
Last month, two tons of expired food items collected from shops in Zaranj city were set alight.
