FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Physicians and officials in western Ghor province have spoken about the increase in positive cases of scabies skin disease in the province and ask people to prevent the spread of this disease by observing personal and environmental hygiene.

They said Scabies is a microbial and cutaneous disease that spreads through dirt, contact with animals, clothes or bed sharing and the like. During this disease, red vapors appear on the skin along with itching.

Dr. Qurban Azizi, who serves at Ghor Provincial Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Scabies is a microbial and cutaneous disease that spreads through dirt, contact with animals, clothes or bed sharing and similar habits, during this disease, red vapors appears on the skin along with itching.”

He said this disease starts from the claws of the hands and feet and then spreads to other parts of the body and it is less itchy during the day and more intense at night.

Dr. Azizi, however, said scabies is curable and preventable, and anyone infected with it should visit a doctor as soon as possible and to be treated.

Dr. Abdul Sattar Mowafaq, head of the Provincial Health Department, said: “Unfortunately, this disease has spread, we had a small number of scabies patients in the first three months of last year, one or two cases were registered in the hospital per week, but this year, from the beginning of the year until now, three to five people referred to the hospital, and the number of this disease is higher this year”

He said although this disease is contagious and can affect other members of the family; it can be easily treated and prevented

He added people can treat this disease by referring to a doctor and also prevent the spread of this disease by observing personal and environmental hygiene, bathing and changing clothes and changing bed sheet.

Patients:

She said: “I noticed a red rash on my skin, I thought it was measles and it was very itchy, when I came to see the doctor, he said it was Gurgi disease and he gave me medicine, I used the same medicine and thanks now I am fine.”

She said the disease was transferred to her sister as well and she also recovered after applying the medicines.

She said: “Me and my sister used to rest in the same room at night and do the housework, it was transmitted from me to her and she was in a lot of pain at night.”
