KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health has rejected some media reports regarding the presence of positive Cholera cases in Afghanistan and added some media outlets published the World Health Organisation (WHO) report wrongly.
According to the WHO report 194,897 individuals suffered from cholera from January, 01 until May 24 in 24 countries out of which 1,932 died. In Afghanistan 26,758 individuals suffered from cholera during the period and 25 patients died.
Public Health Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Sharafat Zaman on his Twitter handle wrote: “The 19th June WHO report used the term of Acute Watery Diharria (AWD) when it comes to Afghanistan and it has nothing to do with the cholera figures in the country.”
He said the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) also regularly published facts and figures regarding AWD with the media, adding that there is natural and scientific difference between cholera and AWD.
Dr. Sharafat did not say for how long there is not positive cholera registered in Afghanistan.
