KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia has underlined the imperative of negotiations with the interim Afghan government for the sake of peace in the war-devastated country.
Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations said on Friday durable peace would elude Afghanistan without dialogue with the caretaker government.
Vasily Nebenzya was quoted as saying by TASS: “We are convinced that any productive discussion of the situation in Afghanistan is impossible without direct involvement of the country’s de-facto authorities.”
Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Afghanistan, he said: “Russia fully supports the right and desire of the Afghan people to live in peace and stability.”
Linking stability in the region to peace in Afghanistan, he reiterated sustainable peace could not be achieved without interaction with IEA on a wide range of issues.
According to the diplomat, here is no alternative to this path. “The way out of the current dead end and Afghanistan’s subsequent international reintegration depend on this.”
