KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations has welcomed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s willingness to participate in an upcoming UN conference on in Doha, reports a Russian media outlet.
TASS quoted the UN’s top diplomat in the country as saying IEA’s participation in the third Doha meeting was essential for building trust between IEA and the global fraternity.
Roza Otunbayeva, who also heads UNAMA, hailed Kabul’s decision in her address to a meeting of the UN Security Council on Afghanistan on Friday.
Earlier in the month, IEA spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid had hinted at the caretaker government’s participation in the UN conference, slated for June 30 and July 1.
Representatives from 25 countries had attended the second UN-convened conference in Doha in February. Kabul had boycotted that conference.
