Above 100,000 tourists throng Nangarhar to celebrate Eid

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): With their number exceeding 100,000, tourists from different parts of the country visited eastern Nangarhar province during Eidul Adha holidays, an official said on Sunday.

Maulvi Sediqullah Quraishi, an official of the Information and Culture department, linked the increase in the number of visitors to the province to improved security and the presence of historical sites, amusement parks and green areas.

He said about 100,000 tourists from various parts of the country visited the province during Eid days.

He added the province’s natural beauty attracted people to spend and celebrate Eid holidays here.

Besides improved security, many facilities have been provided to tourists in some areas by the government and the private sector, he explained.

The official pledged many other facilities would be provided to tourists in the province.

On other the hand, tourists coming to the province were also happy visiting historical sites.

Ali Jan, who arrived from Paktia province on the third day of Eid for tourism, was still in the province. He said he travelled to some remote areas and enjoyed it and waned to visit more districts.

Shaukatullah, an inhabitant of Dara-i-Noor district, said a large number of tourists visited the district during the three days of Eid-ul-Adha.

He complained about dearth of facilities for tourists in the district and urged the government to pay special attention to the area.

He added: “The road above the district administration, which is a tourist destination and people come to the area for sightseeing, is unpaved. We want the government to pave this road.”

Thousands of tourists visited eastern Kunar and Nuristan provinces as well during the Eid festival in addition to Nangarhar.
