Politicians extol Afghanistan’s win over Bangladesh

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some politicians and players in Afghanistan and abroad have congratulated the national team on victory against Bangladesh and qualifying for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi talked to Afghan skipper and veteran leggie Rashid Khan and congratulated the team and countrymen on the win over Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Hayatullah Mahajir Farahi wrote on his X handle that Afghanistan had cruised into semi-final of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the first time. He called the success a historical development in Afghanistan’s cricket history.

Former ambassador Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef also hailed Afghanistan’s victory and qualification for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.

Former presidents Hamid Karzai and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani also congratulated the nation on the national squad’s pulsating victory.

Former chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation Dr. Abdullah Abdullah wrote on his Facebook page cricket was a game of happiness and unity for Afghans. He greeted the nation on the team’s success.

Skipper Rashid Khan wrote on his Facebook account: “Thank Almighty Allah, I congratulate the people of Afghanistan and cricket fans. For Afghanistan, it is the first time to reach to the semi-final, thanks you for your prayers. No words to express my pleasure.”

ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf wrote on his Facebook page: “Dear compatriots, congratulations on this great victory. Afghan cricketers have shown they are the real heroes of this country and have brought great happiness to the country. Congratulations!”

Manzoor Pashteen said: “Congratulations to the Afghan nation on today’s win. May Allah bring more such joyous moments to this nation, Amin.”

By publishing a picture of Afghan cricketers on his Facebook page, Guyanese President Dr. Irfaan Ali also hailed the team’s extraordinary performance.

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also posted on his Facebook page a photo of Afghan cricketers. After defeating New Zealand, Australia and others, the Afghans cruised into the semi-final. “It was just amazing and today’s victory shows your struggle and commitment.”

On his Facebook page, former Pakistani captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi also congratulated Afghanistan.
Following Afghanistan’s victory, a large number of cricket lovers poured into the streets in Kabul, Khost, Nangarhar and other provinces to celebrate the historic moment.
