BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents in central Bamyan province have complained about the non-availability of ear and throat diseases treatment facility and said patients have to travel to other provinces for the treatment.
Abdul Ghani, a resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News the non-availability of Otolaryngology Ward in the provincial Hospital put local people in trouble.
He said: “My four-year-old son suffered from earache for more than a year, but he is still having problems and suffering from the disease despite after visiting Bamyan provincial hospital several times.”
He added that after visiting the Hospital he was only given an ointment and a little antibiotic, which had no effect on the disease, and as a result, he was told to transfer his patient to Kabul for treatment.
Sharifa, another resident who suffered from sore throat, said that she visited the Provincial Hospital but there was Otolaryngologist, she asked public health officials to address this issue.
She said: “I have been facing the problem of sore throat for more than six months, the doctors of the hospital have diagnosed that my throat has extra meat and I have to go to Kabul for the operation.”
She said there is no specialized facility in Bamyan for the treatment of sore throat, ear and nose diseases treatment.
Sharifa said due to economic problems she was unable arrange medical treatment for her problem but she has to go to Kabul for treatment as there was no other option available for her.
Heath experts also termed the non-availability of Otolaryngologist a huge issue being faced by the people.
Alli Yar Mohammadi, an internal diseases specialist, said Complications in the ear and throat are usually caused by viral, bacterial infection, inflammation of the tonsils, influenza, and ear blockage by a foreign object, rupture of the eardrum, cold, and neglect of personal hygiene.
These diseases are usually accompanied by pain, burning and itching of the ear and throat, and if not treated in time, the patient will suffer from serious problems, he added..
Dr. Jafar Zaki, head of the Public Health Department, said only the internal diseases, child internal diseases, gynecology wards were functional in the Provincial Hospital.
There are still no wards of Otolaryngology, Neurosurgery and Orthopedics in the Provincial Hospital and patients suffering from these diseases are mostly sent to Kabul for treatment
Efforts are being made to solve the problems of the clients, and health needs have been partnered with the Ministry of Public Health and the Aga Khan office, which is responsible for providing health services in Bamyan, in order to provide treatment for all kinds of diseases, especially ear and throat in Bamyan.
