Kunduz’s Turpi Jazira area without school: Residents

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of Turpi Jazira area of Imam Sahib district in northern Kunduz province say there is no school for their children in the border area.

Turpi Jazira area is situated on the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan and is inhibited by about 1,200 families.

Baz Mohammad, an inhabitant of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News no formal school existed in their area and their children were facing serious problems.

He said: “About 1,200 families live in the area. Our children have long been deprived of education. We want the Ministry of Education (MoE) to set up a school for our children.”

He added community-based classes were set up in their area every year for six months, but children of the previous years would not be enrolled.

Abdul Rahim, another resident, also asked the caretaker government to establish a formal school for their children.

Noorullah, a 15-year-old child, told Pajhwok they had no formal school in their area and only a number of community classes were being set up every year.

Some other residents of the area also urged solution to the problem.

Meanwhile, Kunduz Education Director Maulvi Hizbullah Mubasher, acknowledged there was no formal school in Turpi Jazira area and assured solution to the problem.

He said: “Efforts are underway to establish two primary schools in this area.”
