GERDAZ (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched on ten school buildings in southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Sunday.
Education Department director Abdul Qayoum Farooqi told the inaugural ceremony in this regard the buildings were being constructed for nine district schools at a cost of 106 million afghanis.
He said the structures would take six months to complete with financial support of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
He added each school building will have six classrooms, an administrative room, toilets and other necessary facilities.
Meanwhile, Rohani Baba district deputy administrative chief Khail Rahman Khoshbakht said five other schools in the district had no buildings.
He said some schools in the district also lacked professional teachers.
Gula Khan, an inhabitant of Mangal Khel area of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News their village school had no building and the students faced serious problems.
According to Education Department, about 183 out of 370 schools have no buildings in the province.
