KABUL (Pajhwok): The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has underlined the need for a coordinated strategic approach to dealing with the challenges facing Afghanistan.
Addressing the third UN-convened conference on Afghanistan in Doha, the OIC secretary-general’s envoy said the way to achieve the goal was to engage constructively with the interim government in Kabul.
In a statement from the biggest Islamic bloc, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit affirmed OIC’s commitment to continued constructive dialogue with the caretaker government on various challenges.
Such dialogue, he said, was in line with resolutions of the OIC Islamic Summit and the Council of Foreign Ministers, especially on issues related to women’s rights to education, employment and combating terrorism.
Representatives from 25 countries including the United States, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and India, and several global organisations attended the two-day meeting on Afghanistan.
