PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Five people, including a former lawmaker, have been killed in a bomb attack in the Bajaur tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Ex-senator Hidayat Ullah’s vehicle was attacked via a remote-controlled bomb in Damadola village late on Wednesday a police official said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bakht Munir confirmed Hidayat was killed in the bomb explosion along with four others.
The ex-senator had gone to Damadola in connection with electioneering for his nephew Najeeb Ullah Khan — a candidate for the PK-22 seat.
Hidayat came under attack on his way back to Khar, the Bajaur headquarters, police said. Malik Irfan and Nazar Deen were also killed in the blast.
Hidayat was the son of former National Assembly member Haji Bismillah Khan and brother ex-KP governor Shaukat Ullah.
He twice served as an independent senator from 2012 to 2018 and 2018 to 2024. His killing was condemned by President Asif Ali Zardari, Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and others.
