Pay cut applicable to female workers sitting at home

KABUL (Pajhwok): All female government servants continue to draw their normal salaries, but those sitting at home will be paid 5,000 afs a month, the Ministry of Finance announced on Monday.

On May 24, the Administrative Affairs Office wrote to the National Environment Protection Authority (NEPA): “Based on an order from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), the monthly salaries of all female employees appointed by the previous government but still working for IEA be revised to 5,000 afs …”

Later, another letter from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) circulated on social media, ordering further action on salaries of female government servants in compliance with the supreme leader’s instructions.

In comments to Pajhwok Afghan News, a number of female government employees expressed their concerns at reduction in their salaries.

However an official confirmed to Pajhwok a clarification had been requested about the IEA leadership’s order and efforts were underway to resolve the issue.

MoF spokesman Ahmad Wali Haqmal the told Pajhwok only those female employees who were sitting at home would be paid 5,000 afs a month.

Other female employees of the government, including teachers and health workers would continue to be paid routine salaries, Haqmal explained.
