KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MPVPV) has asked the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to refrain from statements regarding the implementation of Islamic laws that hurts the emotions of Muslims.

In its latest report, the UNMA raised objections over some activities of the MPVPV and linked them with the violation of human rights and freedom.

The UNAMA report said that since its establishment, the activities of the de facto MPVPV had negative impacts on the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms in various aspects of life for people living in Afghanistan, with a discriminatory and disproportionate impact on women.

Mawlavi Abdul Ghafar Farooq, spokesperson for the MPVPV in an audio message rejected UNAMA report and said objections raised about the operation of this ministry were unfounded and far from the reality.

He said after the establishment of the IEA government the rights of all citizens’ men and women have been protection.

Mawlavi Farooq said Afghanistan was a Muslim society and it was government’s responsibility to implement these laws.

“We want UNAMA to refrain from statements regarding the implementation of Islamic laws that provoke the emotions of Muslims.”

Earlier, the IEA Chief Spokesperson while Reacting to the report the IEA said the criticism from UNAMA regarding the procedures of the MPVPV and Hearing Complaints in Afghanistan is unfounded.
