200-bed rehab center for drug addicts set up in Daikundi

NEILI (Pajhwok): A 200-beded rehabilitation center has been set up to treat drug addicts in Neili city, the capital of central Daikundi province.

Established by the Counter-Narcotics Department, the facility was inaugurated in the presence of local officials and 167 drug addicts were admitted.

Sayed Mohammad Hassan Hashimi, an official of the department, said rehab center had the capacity to treat 200 drug addicts in a period.

He added the addicts would remain in the center for a three-month period undergoing various therapeutic methods.

He expressed the hope that the addicts would return to their families after their recovery and resume a normal life free from drugs.

He said the counter-narcotics department extended necessary coordination to the Labor and Social Affairs Department to create jobs for rehabilitated drug addicts.

Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Aziz Tayeb, deputy police chief, said the government had been making continuous efforts to provide treatment to drug addicts.

He urged the addicts being treated at the camp to try not return to their habit and rejoin families and community in good health.

Maulvi Rahmatullah Abu Zia, head of the Daikundi governor’s office, said the government would implement every project that was beneficial for the society and the country.

He said cited the establishment of health centers to treat drug addicts across the country an example of the government’s commitment.

Some drug addicts, who are admitted to the center, welcomed the establishment of the facility and urged the government to provide them with jobs.

“It is very good that a camp has been set up for us and we are being treated, we are very poor, we have no life,” said Abdul Hamid, a drug addict.
