Saudi Arabia to fast-track relations with Afghanistan: Envoy

KABUL (Pajhwok): Saudi Arabia wants to fast-track its relations with Afghanistan and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghans, the country’s envoy in Kabul said on Thursday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) deputy spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal wrote on X that Saudi ambassador to Kabul Faisal bin Talaq Al Baqami called on Acting Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

Both sides held comprehensive discussions on bilateral relations and recent achievements in various fields in Afghanistan.

Muttaqi pointed to religious, cultural and historical commonalities between the Afghans and the Arabs and added Afghanistan desired expanded ties with Saudi Arabia.

Muttaqi expressed the hope that bilateral relations between the two countries would further develop during Faisal Al-Baqami’s tenure.

The Saudi envoy also mentioned historical and deep relations between the two countries and expressed happiness that his country wanted to expedite and further develop relations with Afghans.

He promised that his country would continue to provide humanitarian aid to Afghans and would cooperate in other areas as well.

He also praised the actions and efforts of the Islamic Emirate, especially strengthening security and fighting drugs.

Muttaqi briefed the Saudi diplomat about recent developments on political, economic and security fronts and vowed to expand diplomatic missions in both countries.

Muttaqi yesterday met Turkmenistan ambassador and both sides discussed TAPI gas pipeline in Afghanistan, increasing the capacity of Turghundi station and Herat Noorul Jihad electricity substation.
