GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents in the Nawa district of southern Ghazni province have complained against the lack of work opportunities and said if there was some work one person gets 80 afs as daily wage.
They said no development work took place in Nawa district during the past government due to which they faced acute economic problems.
Abdul Habib, the resident of Nawa district, told Pahwok Afghan News they faced a number of economic problems and could not purchase a bread for themselves.
He said: “It is common trend here that a labour is paid 80 afs from dawn to dusk meaning that hourly wage is up to seven afs.”
Mohammad, another resident, said he led a 15 member family but due to unemployment he was faced with economic issues.
“We are searching of bread to earn, there is no work if something is found for doing people pay up to 80 afs daily and he work is related to construction which is not easy,” he said.
“I work in Nawa district and load a tractor from sand against 80 afs once in a day.”
Mohammad Abid, a tribal elder told Pajhwok Afghan News the unemployment level is high in the district.
Work on the construction of district building started few months earlier but still worker come and demand work.
“We have thousands of unemployed youths and daily wage is also low, if the government and NGO want they could launch work on scores of public welfare projects —- roads, culverts, ditches, retaining walls, Karez and others — at a low cost,” he said.
Economic Affairs Expert Hafzullah Hakimi said that several Ghazni youth were ready for work but there were limited work opportunities in the province.
He said if the government open factories in the province it would help restrict growing unemployment.
Government officials also acknowledged growing unemployment in Ghazni province.
Governor Hafizullah Amin Jan Umari said people were busy working in some projects in Nawa and some other districts but it was not enough.
He asked the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and international organisations to work for the eradication of unemployment in Afghanistan.
It is pertinent to mention that besides Ghazni province people in some other provinces also complained against unemployment.
