‘Development schemes worth $76 million executed in Nangarhar last year’

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Development projects costing $76 million completed in eastern Nangarhar province by domestic and international organizations last year, officials said on Sunday.

The projects included the construction of footpaths, roads, water canals, schools and health centres and some other public welfare projects.

Besides cooperation between government relevant authorities, the directorate of Economy was established to bring more cooperation between governmental and foreign institutions, said Mawlavi Attaurrahman Fateh, head of the provincial Economy Department.

Amid at improving the social and economic well-being the people, a total of 211 different uplift projects were launched at the cost of over $76.4 million dollars during the past one year, of which 121 were completed while work on 90 projects was underway, he said.

He added the projects funded from the national budged, 13 development projects were implemented at the cost of 302 million afs in Nangarhar last year, but 145 more projects worth over 3 billion Afs were suggested for this year, their works will start after their approval.

Mawlavi Fateh said 157 organizations operated in Nangarhar out of which 47 were international but the remaining 110 of them are domestic organizations.

Fatih said: “The Economy department monitored the activities of both domestic and international organizations, praised that worked well but advised those with faults, we have good relations with such organizations.”

Fatih said, in order to meet the needs of people in different areas, we prepared a written the provincial profile in the form of a book and shared it with the institutions. We have also prepared another similar draft of needs and shared with the ministry of economy for its approval.

Over 13,500 laborers were provided long and short term employment opportunities in Nangarhar last year and hundreds of more people including women were trained for vocational professions.

The government had also attracted humanitarian aid for the repatriates and held more meetings with the official of relevant originations for better handling the issues of returnees. To make the information accessible to all, the Information and Culture directorate started the series of weekly briefing conferences.
