KABUL (Pajhwok): Ex-US president Donald Trump has been wounded in what the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI says) calls an assassination attempt, CNN reported on Sunday.
Trump came under attack from a gunman during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening. At least one participant of the rally was killed while two others were critically injured.
Soon afterwards, the former president said on social media he was shot by a bullet in the upper part of his right ear. He was rushed off the stage with blood on his face.
According to the Secret Service, a gunman and at least one audience member were killed at the rally in Butler.
The FBI said at a news conference Saturday night that the agency is working to identify the gunman through “biometric confirmations” because he did not carry identification on him.
The attacker fired multiple shots from an “elevated position” outside of the rally before he was killed by agents, the Secret Service. The shooter was on a building rooftop outside the rally venue, the broadcaster said.
In a call with Trump, President Joe Biden condemned the violence. He said in a statement earlier he’s “grateful” Trump was safe.
Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police told reporters an investigation would let authorities “take a look at where any failures occurred and what can be done better in the future.”
