FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Rain-induced flash flooding washed away dozens of household animals, farmland, irrigation canals and a small hydropower dam in Juram district of northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Sunday.
Maulvi Mohammad Akram Akbari, director of Natural Disaster Management, said heavy rainfall unleashed flash floods in Sandar Dara Khastak area of Juram district on Saturday.
He said preliminary figures suggested that the flooding killed 200 livestock, swept away farmland, irrigation canals, a small power dam and a number of residential houses, but no causalities were reported.
According to Akbari, a team the provincial capital has been sent to the district to investigate the damage.
