ASADABAD (Pajhwok): At least five people, including children and women, have been killed as a result of flash floods in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Ihsanullah Ihsan, an official of the Disaster Preparedness Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News floods hit parts of Asmar district and Asadabad, the provincial capital, on Monday.
He said the flooding also caused heavy financial losses to the people. Dozens of houses, hundreds of kilometres of roads, streams and crops on hundreds of acres of land were damaged.
He added a rescue team had been dispatched to the affected areas to provide flood-hit people with necessary assistance.
Meanwhile, the flood-affected people of the province asked the caretaker government and aid organisations for prompt assistance.
Sediqullah, an inhabitant of Asmar district, said flash floods damaged residential houses, roads and water heads. He also urged the authorities to provide them aid.
