JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The death toll from Monday heavy rains and storms in eastern Nangarhar province rose to 47, with another 350 finjured, the Disaster Preparedness Department confirmed on Tuesday.
Maulvi Saifullah Khalid, director of the department, said fierce storms and torrential rains caused life and heavy financial losses in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, and several other district on Monday.
He said at least 47 people were killed and 350 others wounded in the disaster.
He added about 400 residential houses, 60 electricity poles, trees and crops on hundreds acres of land were also damaged.
On the other hand, residents of the province are also asking for emergency aid.
Mirwais, an inhabitant of the Sararod district, told Pajhwok Afghan News flash floods destroyed a number of residential houses in their district.
He asked the authorities to provide them with emergency assistance.
Earlier, flash floods had killed hundreds of people and also caused heavy financial losses in northern Baghlan province.
