KABUL (Pajhwok): Work to widen and reconstruct the first part of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway kicked off on Tuesday from Kabul city, a municipality officials said.

The road widening project will cost 680 million afs and will be constructed from Kabul city to Paktia’s Kot area, the official added.

The Kabul municipality wrote on X that Kabul residents will be provided with more facilities with completion of the project that will further help the city economically grow.

Engineer Mir Rahman Nasiri, the head of Programs and Projects department at the municipality, said the first part of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway will be widened from the current width to 60 metres in four lanes starting from Macroyan area of Kabul to southeastern Paktia’s Kot district with a length of over 9.3 kilometers. The municipality will pay 680 million afs cost of the project from its development budget.

The project also includes construction of sewage system, pathways, vases, bike-boulevard and bus stops.

“The Kabul-Jalalabad highway is a major route for economic activity and its construction is our priority and a hope for the people”, Nasiri said.
